 I am not sure why you would want and external enclosure instead of
 mounting the drives inside the PC.  But if that is your chosen
 configuration you will find that external drive enclosures offer no less
 performance than mounting drives internally providing you buy a good
 quality eSATA controller card, cabling and enclosure etc.
 
 You will only reap the benefits of a 2 drive eSATA RAID by using an
 eSATA controller.  Avoid FW400/FW800 and USB solutions as they will have
 a detrimental impact on performance.
 
 Personally I would mount the drives inside the PC and run them off the
 internal SATA connections.  If you are worried that using your PC for
 internet access might put your data at risk then buy good virus and
 security software.  Alternatively buy a Mac.
