DVD FAQ states that "prices for the first [DVD] players in 1997 were $1000
*and up.*" I've read people stating that their first Blu-Ray player cost
less than their first DVD player. Plus the PS3 has Blu-Ray playback
capabilities and can be had for $500-600.
Also, the competition between HD formats will probably cuse Blu-Ray's
prices to drop faster as they try to catch up to HD DVD's cost.
