 I have a BenQ that reads DVD-RAM at 6.9 Mb/s which *is* 5x. An
Optiarc [NEC/Sony] reads almost as fast. These are almost three
times the speed of the Pioneer.

It should write that fast but it doesn't.

 /dev/sda:
 Timing buffered disk reads: 230 MB in 3.00 seconds = 76.66 MB/sec

I can't share the cdfreaks rave review. Since the BenQ and Optiarc
drives do read RAM at 5x, I wonder if Pioneer sets the max read
speed to be the stated write speed. My RAM disks are Panasonic
 2-3x.

The relevance to this ng is that I take material recorded on RAM
using a Panasonic DVDR and edit it on the computer.

Again, thanks for the trouble you went to for your response.
