ODC Nimbus manufactures CD/DVD mastering equipment. They have a few
short pdf's on the processes here:

A glass master disk is coated with photoresist, exposed with a laser,
developed, baked and coated with nickel. This glass master disk is used
to create father and mother disks and then a son metal stamper disk.
