Hi, I am looking for some copyright information regarding a project
that I want to do. Recently, I came up with a new theory regarding
some of the artistic works that were created by John Lennon and Paul
McCartney.
I would like to make a video about what I have derived from the works
of John and Paul and post it on YouTube and other similar sites. The
video would be an explanation, or commentary, regarding my
interpretation of a period of their songs. I am not interested in
making any money from the video and would not charge anyone that
watches it. I simply want to put forth to the public my interpretation
of some of their songs and movies, etc.
I have read quite a bit about 'fair use' as far as copyright goes and
I am under the impression that I am allowed to put forth to the public
my personal interpretation of some of their works. In effect this
'explanation' seems to also be a 'commentary' about the works of John
and Paul. Can someone please confirm that what I want to do is
allowed? It would be greatly appreciated. It seems to me that I should
be able to come up with a unique interpretation of their music and
make it available to the public at no charge. Is this correct, or am I
missing something?
During the course of explaining my interpretation of their artistic
efforts I wish to display some of their lyrics as well as some of
their album covers, etc. I am not planning, as of now, on playing any
of their music during the course of the video. I simply want to talk
about some of their songs.
