Yes, optical discs store well when properly stored and maintained.
Tapes stores the same when properly stored and maintained. However,
it is much easier to properly store and maintain tape and tape is much
more forgiving for being improperly stored/maintained. Anyway, for
tape: Keep it stored with the spools vertical and every year or
three, wind the tape to the other spool - this will prevent the tape
from sticking to itself and causing horrendous dropout and particles
sticking to your playback heads when you try playing it again.
