Hi again, dadiOH,

Well, I finally got the wavs ripped. First, I had to uninstall
MusicMatch Jukebox (a Dell pre-install I never had even opened)
because everytime I was putting the CD in a drive, it kept
opening, crashing, and hanging and I had to kill it with Task
Manager. So, I uninstalled that.

Then I tried to see if a known-rippable CD would show up in the
rippers, and it did. But I opened the ripper first, before
inserting the CD in the drive. That seems to be the only way it
will work now.

So, then I was finally able to rip the home-made CD. But then
WinAmp no longer worked. I had to download and install
foobar2000 to see if there was any sound in any of my wavs or
mp3s.

So then I uninstalled Winamp and reinstalled it and for some
reason, now instead of the Winamp desktop icon, there's an AOL
icon. But it works as a music player again.

I still don't know what the problem was. It was never a problem
before to insert a CD before opening a ripper. But at least I
don't have to set up my old computer and I'm glad of that.

One weird thing - the wav files sound a lot more distorted than
the CD did when playing from the optical drive.

Anyway, I managed to rip that %#&%@ CD!

Many thanks!

G.
