Yes, that is the way it has been up to now. But perhaps it has
escaped your notice that in recent times, manufacturers appear
to be *deliberately* dumbing-down products. They depend on
people like you who continue to think that products at a certain
price-point have some expected level of performance.
This is the *second* major, serious audio deficiency Sony has
released in a camcorder. Not clear whether they are becoming
incompetent, just don't care, or are trying to "protect" their
higher-end produt line?
