You don't need to feel stupid for asking that, as there is no define
standard. There may be a majority of systems used in a specific area, but
it is not guaranteed that the station where you are dealing with, is using
the same hardware/software.

I would try and bypass that middleman. Maybe that person will misunderstand
something or think _for_ you, and make decisions on your behalf which are
not necessarily good.
