In general, I'd suggest option 2, however for a tightly packed tape
such as DV, I don't think it is necessary. I used to do this with
3/4" tapes, but some of them had the issue of not being properly
tensioned if you didn't fast forward to the end and rewind back before
your first recording. Option 1 is what you would do in prep for an
insert edit session. Option 3 is what I would normally do with DV
tape, however I may be inclined to fastforward/rewind the tape a bit
on a miniDV camera if the brand is not the same as the last brand in
the camera.
