Didn't work . the recorder just gave an error code on the front panel. must be looking for a specific HDD or file format on the HDD. Will try the format
 with Knoppix and try again.
 
 If all else fails I thing I will just buy a DVD drive cobble it in to the
 recorder and copy off all the stuff that's on the HDD. ( only doing this cos
 it's full of the kids stuff and my life will be hell if I don't manage to
 recover it!! )
