Don’t use the “microphone” socket unless you absolutely have to. If your
computer has one, use the “input” or “aux.” or “line-in” socket instead.
All three of those are just different names for the same thing.
As to what software to use to record... try AudioGrabber. It is probably
the most convenient for recording to MP3.
