Have you ever studied assembly language? Hex codes and registers?
That is what lies beneath DVD menus and navigation.
You will not have a playable DVD if you just try to split the files
you see "by the numbers".
The easiest way to get a DVD disc burn that works is to let DVDShrink
compress your + 7 gigs into a standard 4.7 gig size. You may notice a
slight loss of quality using this option.
You can "split" the (DVD-9) +7 gig disc into two (DVD-5) 4.7 gig
discs. Not you on your own, but by using a program such as CloneDVD2.
There are more potential problems here. If you decide to keep any
menus, some programs will only give you those menus on disc-#1. Disc #2
will be the last half of the movie/video only.
Elaborate Bytes CloneDVD2 can give you the original main menu on both
discs. Usually the navigation works for disc#2. Sometimes things get
goofy.
Or, get a friend that has a dual-layer burner burn your complete movie
onto a single (D)ua(L)ayer-disc. Then you better hope your stand-alone
DVD player will play it. A lot of players will not.
good luck,
