As Jyesta said, lose the initial letter in front of the numbers. You
need to use numbers with enough places to accomodate the maximum
number of files you will be transfering to a device; that is, if you
plan to transfer less than 100, "01...etc" is fine. If you plan to
transfer 1000-9999 then you have to use more places in your number -
in this case, "0001...etc".

The numbers *MUST* follow the same pattern exactly. In your example
above,
"a02-" and "a-03-" are totally different for sorting purposes.
_______________

Now as to your sorting problem...

It would have been helpful to know how the device *does* sort the
transferred file. If you can determine that, you should be able to
create a fix. If no in either case then you'll have to do some
empirical work. You should check the device's manual for info too.
It might not only tell you that tidbit but tell you how to change the
sort parameter.

There are only three possibile things that could be used for
sorting...
1. the file name
2. an ID3v1 tag
3. an ID3v2 tag

At this stage of development I doubt a device is using ID3v1 tags but
it is possible. The fact that some files show genre and some don't
indicates that it is sorting by using tag data. You could verify that
by copying a dozen or two MP3s on your computer and stripping both tag
versions from the copies; assure that the file names show in Explorer
as you want them to. Now load the copies onto the device and undock.
Do the files show properly on the device?

If they sort properly and you have no need for tag data because you
have incorporated it into the file name, you are fixed.

If you want tags, you'll have to repeat the trial above but put tags
back into the copied MP3s before loading them onto the device. If,
after doing so, the files are not displayed properly then you'll have
to incorporate the "0001" numbering scheme into the tag field which is
used for sorting by the device (probably "Title").
