If you played your MP3 files through iTunes and added them to your
library, or just added them to the iTunes library, regardless of whether
you used Winamp to play them or not. When the iPod syncs with iTunes,
those tracks wouldn't be deleted.
Basically, an iPod syncs with whatever is in your iTunes library at the
time, if you add a track; MP3, AAC (M4a or M4p) etc.. that track will go
on to your iPod the next time it syncs. If you delete a track from your
iTunes library it will be removed from your iPod the next time it syncs.
Not allowing an iPod to sync with iTunes is fine if you don't want to
add or delete tracks from your iPod. So if you are happy with the music
currently on your iPod, don't allow it to sync with iTunes and nothing
will be deleted. (Nothing will be added either though.)
