Well, I´ve fried a couple of DV cams myself (even a firewire disk)
(among them a Sony TRV900, now repaired, some others scrapped).
Turns out the PC was connected to an un-grounded power outlet.
A big no-no evidently...
Seems that firewire is very sensitive, not so with USB..
