Gee, for someone with "no vested interest" in this, you sure go to
a lot of trouble just to (again) show that you're not very familiar
with this technology.
The "frosty" layers in the LCD backlight you took apart are the
diffusers; the clear film and the top "silver/pearl" layer are there
for brightness enhancement. The slight tint to the thin film layer
is incidental to its function, and has no significant impact on the
color characteristics of the completed module.

You can only imagine my disappointment in hearing that. Of
course, I seriously doubt that you can stick to it.
