That is what the government (read: European Union) wants us to do. But
since nobody actually rushes out to buy their new tv-sets, the
manufacturers are moaning, plans for digital widescreen etc get postponed.
We can still resist ;-)
Besides, didn't the FCC mandate switch-over to digital tv as well in the
USA? That would be somthing similar, right?
