tough one.. sounds like a hardware problem at first. I thought the dac100
was completely compatible.
your cable is good because you use it to capture from the camcorder..
If the dac100 is still functionally good and its hardware interface is not
bad then it should work..
Hard to figure how it may have been fried if it hasn't been used.
nonetheless there could be a failed part in ght DAC.

Have you tried the DAC on another machine?

Is premiere set to recognize the DAC100 or set as generic firewire device?
Perhaps there is something in there you can fiddle with..
