It can be argued that it is the best among REWRITABLE media.

RW media, however, is MORE susceptible to data loss over time than
write once could ever be.

Both types, however, are written to (LASER impinged, NOT burned) a
polymer (plastic) layer that IS subject to physical, mechanical mutation
over time. That's just the way it is.

The only way to get past this is for there to be made, a high power
write once medium that actually gets burned, not merely impinged upon.

Then, heat and time will not be able to cause a mutation.
