This probably isn't going to lead to the answer, but how did you
install the new file? (What did you do with the old host file?)

Also, I've seen some a NG post mentioning typographical errors in the
new file - though I didn't bother to really look into it because I
managed to get back on the network. That said, if you can get at least
3 servers working on Open Nap, you'll still get a lot out of winmx.
For its shortcomings, Open Nap really is a great resource.
