If you're talking about video files, there is a way to preview the
incompletes. Though I've read few posts suggesting avi preview as a
primary use, Virtualdub can play incomplete .avi files with sufficient
clarity to confirm whether you're DL'g the file you want. I've also
used it for audio capture.
