I just checked my W98 install (I usually use W2K, but have W98 as an
optional boot).

There is a default file that is named HOSTS.SAM in the Windows
directory of my W98 partition, no doubt part of the original MS
install. There is no file called HOSTS though. So not sure whether
W98 uses a file called HOSTS or a file called HOSTS.SAM ? Maybe copy
the hosts list given recently in this ng and save under both names
just to be sure, to be sure.

Also, I plugged the new winmx HOSTS file into my W2K install under
WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\ (used the auto patch given elsewhere) but
still no joy connecting with WINMX

I've rebooted & tried an ipconfig/dnsflush - still no joy

Also tried changing the "region" setting in WinMX from Europe to
N.America in case it uses a different set of lookups. Still can't get
a network connection. (I'm located in the UK).

What problem is the DLL replacement mentioned in other threads meant
to fix, and does it apply to W2K as well as XP? If so, where can I
download the DLL replacement? I don't want to fix something that
ain't broke, especially if it involves using a 3rd party system DLL.
