No doubt your pc was watching while you posted here and figured it better
quit messing around.
Happens all the time with them sneaky pc's.

Still may have been the virus software, some "protects" your pc against
malicious files being written/modified,
and cancels changes as you shut down, as the hosts file is almost a system
configuration file, it might have got confused.
