Using XP? If so, is the XP firewall engaged? Use a router? Have you
forwarded the WinMX ports in your firewall and/or router?

As a "last resort" you could try a passive secondary connection to
WinMX. Go to Settings, Internet Connection. Under Incoming TCP and
In/Out UDP, set both to the "unable" options and restart WinMX. But
doing so will limit you somewhat with fewer search results and you won't
be able to transfer files to or from other passive secondaries.
