well,
in lue of winmx (ok program, if you don't mind the memory hoggishness),
there is lopster-win32, winlop (the other variant of lopster), DC++,
AresGalaxy and a few others.
bearshare is one of the networks that was issued a letter by the RIAA and
thus, cannot truely be trusted. KazaA definitely cannot be trusted (the
software comes equipped with 3 trojan horses and a rootkit. not exactly
what one considers "safe").

there are still choices. I like the napster biz model (itunes), but would
like to make a change: pay the artist directly, not some middleman whose
only motive is profit and nothing else.
