way of the 605, and then sat in evening rush hour traffic for 45 minutes. C
arl called; I filled him in on the situation, and he said he'd make some pho
ne calls. I had no idea what that meant, but it made me feel better. I event
ually got off the 10 and made it to the Pomona Valley Hospital on surface st
reets, quicker than if I had stayed on the freeway.
"Carl," Joshua said. "I saw the playback."
"You're silly," Miranda said. "All my time is spent at work. When I'm not at
work, I'm at home. No mystery there." She patted the stretcher. "Come take
a nap with me."
