[] business. I concur, I shop for convenience and low price. I can't
[] afford to be "patriotic," I need to take care of myself first.

[] Mom and Pop, not the consumer. Wal-Mart and its ilk are good for the
[] US consumer for all the reasons detailed. Perhaps it's a bit
[] contentious, but the "bad" outweighs the "good".
You're shooting yourself in the foot.
Wal-mart represents the homogenization of selection and true value
(not low price). You're trading knowledge and diversity for
convenience. You perceive that you're saving money, and you are in the
base sense, but you're trading it for quality and expertise. You have
become the perfect consumer.
I'm not a curmudgeon or luddite--I work in the high-tech sector--but I
despise the demise of the specialist. These are the days of the
teen-age staffed super-marts, and I hate it. But I know that there's
no stopping it. Aw well...
