ABC Puts 'Lost,' 'Housewives' on iTunes
(Wednesday, October 12 12:13 PM)
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Digital video recorder not working? Can't
wait for a DVD release? ABC feels your pain.
The network and its parent company, Disney, have teamed up with Apple
to offer episodes of several shows, including monster hits "Lost" and
"Desperate Housewives," on Apple's iTunes music service. The deal,
which Disney says is the first of its kind, coincides with the release
of iTunes 6.
The new ABC drama "Night Stalker" and two Disney Channel series,
"That's So Raven" and "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody," will also be
available for downloading through iTunes. New episodes will be
available the day after their initial broadcast for $1.99 each for
viewing on a computer or iPod.
ABC will also offer the entire first seasons of "Lost" and
"Housewives" on the service, along with selected past episodes of the
two Disney Channel series.
"This initiative is a perfect example of us applying our strategic
priorities, namely marrying great content with cutting-edge technology
to more effectively distribute our content while enhancing the
experience for our customers," Disney CEO Robert Iger says. "For the
first time ever, hit prime-time shows can be purchased online the day
after they air on TV."
Downloads of the shows will be available in the United States only.
