The problem (as I see it) is that we have a proliferation of genres but
no subdivision thereof. As one example, "Jazz" could have many
subdivisions such as Big Band, Small Group, Dixieland, Bop, Vocal...etc.
Not to mention decades.

Personally, I use basic genres and use the comment field to
sub-catagorize as desired. Many don't get a comment field catagory...I
know Ella FitzGerald is a female vovalist :)
