I'm new to this, so please be gentle...
I've just bought an mp3 player. Although the player is not an ipod, I
have been using iTunes to rip my mp3s. Seems to do a pretty good job,
organising the directory structure by
"artist/album/trackno songtitle.mp3"
Now, I have also got a lot of mp3s from other sources, and they are an
absolute mess[1] in terms of their organisation. I'd like to organise
them in the same way as iTunes does.
Is there some really clever software to detect what the artist/album etc
is on existing mp3s and convert them or rename the directories and
filenames? Or am I stuck doing it manually?
[1] By "mess" I mean the base directory may or may not have artist in
it, may or may not be all caps, sometimes it has the album name,
sometimes there are brackets around it, sometimes the actual mp3
filename contains the artist and album name too. Really unsightly,
though petty I know.
