some digital media players allow you to create collections of music
that you want to play in a particular order. Say, for instance, you
have a live recording of a comedian, and each 'bit' is a seperate mp3.
Or you have an audio book in which each chapter is a seperate mp3. In
general, there are times when you have a reason for playing particular
mp3s in a particular order.
playlist support would provide you the ability to specify a set of mp3s
and an ordering.
While some mp3 players play music back in alphabetical or random
ordering, I think I've read a review or two of players which by default
played the music in the order it was placed on the player.
Having playlists provides you the ability to, say, play all the music
related to a particular holiday, or location, or musician, etc.
