Sorry Guys,

Should have said it is a generic type (cheap-o) 1GB flash drive type.
It has a small screen and the usual buttons (play/pause, vol up/down,
ffr/rrw, etc), space for one AAA battery and a small USB mini port.

Is there any way to force a computer to talk to it via USB? Reload the
firmware or something?
