in the original announcement, as well as on the page - and in fact in
your quote - the original poster says "and Microsoft Windows XP and
2000". I suspect that NT and 98 would have been mentioned if they were
supported, just as Solaris or MacOS pre-X would have probably been
mentioned if they were supported.

I may be wrong though.
