For whatever reason, it seems Nero isn't doing a good job of decoding
the MP3s to wave. Since Winamp is, why not let Winamp make the waves
(instead of Nero) and then have Nero burn the waves?
To do so, open Winamp to Preferences|Plug-ins|Output then select and
configure the DiskWriter or WAV writer plugin. Finally, play the files.
They will "play" rapidly and you will hear nothing since the output is
being sent to files rather than your sound card.
For a Nero soultion you might try installing the ASPI files that WinXP
lacks. See this page for info and to obtain forceaspi.exe
