Doug, it says it right in the text you copied and pasted below. If you
don't connect your portable player every month the songs will become
unplayable.

What part of this:

.. . . don't you understand? If you don't connect your player to their
server so they can check and authorize every song you have once a month
the songs will cease to be playable.

In my opinion it is a crappy, overpriced, and intrusive service but they
are quite clear about what the service they are offering is and about how
it works.

You quote them but still ask the very questions that they answer there.
