Why do you think that iPod is the best? From what I've heard, it's
middling at best - a great compromise of size & capacity for those who
really need the capacity. At worst I hear people getting one with 30gb
and wondering why they did it; or people buying the nano and suddenly
succumbing to the fear that an even niftier iPod was on the way. iPods
are supposed to have battery issues, tech support issues - and you need
to buy add-on stuff to keep your iPod from getting scratched up.

What does that have to do with iPods?

Yeah - why are you looking at mp3 players when you could have a cheaper
CD player that plays mp3 CD's? They cost about $30, play standard CD's
- which you'll probably want to burn anyway to archive your music - run
on standard AA batteries (you can probably buy some at the Apple store,
but you don't have to); are fairly sized and can store hours worth of
sound on a single disc.
