iRiver has made an incredible improvement in the sound quality of their
new units with the newly released firmware 1.60. I have the iRiver T30
and was very pleased with the sound quality before the upgrade. I would
never have believed that a free firmware upgrade (through a simple
download from the iRiver website) could make such a dramatic
improvement in sound quality. The quality is what I'd subjectively call
superb. I don't use these words lightly. Once you have the new
firmware downloaded, I'd suggest starting with the following settings
and then modifying depending upon your personal preferences.
SRS 8
Focus High
TruBass 10
Boost 60
Keep in mind that only the newer units have the new processor that
allows the installation of firmware 1.60 or 1.61. I am sure that almost
all of the units currently in stores do not have the latest firmware
installed because the update is only a few weeks old.
Those units include the T10, T20, T30, N11.
