I also don't want such a "phone home" system, but I would guess that the
thinking here is that the market for portable HD-resolution playback is
so small that the number of actual sales lost might not be significant.
The reality is that although the early adopters *might* buy into this
for the HD quality, 5 years from now when everybody can afford an HD
display as their main TV, there will still be a tiny percentage of homes
that have a full-time Internet connection available to their "TV room".
Even with an explosion in full-time connectivity, probably less than 10%
will have it somewhere other than their "computer room", unless the players
all have built-in wireless.
