Lame.sourceforge.net says 3.96.1 is the latest release. They provide a
link to hydrogenaudio for those wishing more details. So off to
hyrdogenaudio I went, and they recommend 3.97b2.

Why has 3.97 never been officially released? 3.96.1 is dated July
2004; I would think that 18 months is plenty of time to work out the
bugs in 3.97.

Much as I love the Alt Preset Standard setting, it sure is sloooow
encoding, so if the newer version has the same quality with faster
encoding, that would be a welcome development.
