Thanks much for the reply. I had checked out some of the parameter tables
for LAME on the internet, but hadn't completely made the connection between
certain things. For instance, I didn't realize that the switches -V2, -V3,
etc. corresponded to the "VBR Quality" settings in the CDex parameter
choices. Thanks also for clarifying what the q and V quality settings
actually do....very clear now.
I was aware that the presets corresponded to groups of parameter settings,
such as VBR quality and min/max bitrates, but I'm still curious if there are
values of 'q' that relate to the various preset schemes as well. I haven't
seen any listed in any tables. Regardless, I feel that I've got a pretty
good handle on what's going on.
Lastly, do you have an opinion on whether or not the faster 'VBR New'
setting yields the same level of quality as the slower 'VBR Old'?
