Try swapping the centre speaker with one of the fronts temporarily, so you
can determine whether it's a speaker problem or with the amp. If you can
sort out the buzzing first you're half way there. Also, double check the
wiring is clean and not frayed or anything.

Seems odd, check the dvd players internal decoder to see whether the centre
channel volume is set to zero or something. There could be a setting which
is preventing the speech from being included in the scart output's downmix.
