I recently acquired a Panny DMR-10ES DVD recorder with the intention of
archiving all my old VHS stuff and the occasional comedy show recorded off
TV.

All my VHS stuff is now transferred. I then tried to record some stuff from
my Freeview box (a Humax 8000) but I couldn't record a picture, either from
live broadcast or a previous recording. I could record the same onto a VHS
deck, so I know the connection / scart lead is working. I can also record
from my TiVo onto DVD.

Is this some kind of digital protection built in? If so, I can only record
TV broadcasts onto DVD from the buit-in tuner and I feel a bit cheated.
Does this sound right? And is there a way round it?
