You must be using a non-anamorphic widescreen DVD. If the DVD is encoded
for 16x9 TVs, it will fill the screen assuming your DVD player is set up for
16x9. What DVD is it? If, on the case it doesn't say "anamorphic
widescreen" or "enhanced for widescreen TVs", it will just appear as
letterboxed. Hopefully your TV has a zoom function that can compensate.
Mine for example has a 16x9 zoom function, and I can nudge the screen
accordingly to mimic a full-blown WS image. Otherwise, bring the DVD back
for a refund... any DVD of a widescreen movie that isn't enhanced is a
rip-off and a half-ass job from the studio.
