If you define epic as huge fucking sets, millions of extras and real
legend movie stars then no probably not, LOTR is probably the exception
except CGI has taken over from huge sets these days.
With the increasing number of remakes (The Longest Yard, aka The Mean
Machine's 3rd incarnation, anyone?) it's making it harder to find films
with true originality in them.
I get drawn more to films people have a "aw man, that was shite!"
attitude towards, I enjoyed Battlefield Earth when it was shown on tv
recently and want the DVD (*ducks the flying objects*), I like finding
movies that hardly anyone knows about because more often they have a
non-hollywood touch to them that hollywood just can't emulate, subtitled
films in particular because most of my friends won't be interested
("I want to watch the film, not read it!")
