I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet. Just because it's
widescreen doesn't mean it's 16:9. It could be in a wider aspect
ratio such as 2.35:1.
Spider-Man is 16:9 thus fills the entire screen.
Spider-Man 2 was shot wider, in 2.35:1 (box says 2.40:1 incidently).
This will cause black bars on the top and bottom.
Windowboxing occurs when a DVD is not anamorphic, that is black bars
on the top and bottom AND sides.
