You have various choices if you want the films on your PC

1) rip the DVDs using software such as Smartripper and you can have the
whole DVD on your hard drive and watch whenever you want - they will take up
massive amounts of space tho.

2) rip them and then convert to DivX or Xvid - this will make them into just
1 file rather than laods of VOBs - and slightly easier to view as you can
chuck all 500 in one folder and click and view in media player whenever you
want. - however you will lose quality if you want lower file sizes - you can
get 1 DVD down to 1.5gb and still get near perfect (for me) quality anyway -
even 1 CD versions look good if they are done properly.

Problem with Divx/Xvid is that they are not as compatible with DVD players
and I am guessing the majority of people dont have Divx players - this is
only an issue if u wanna burn and watch on anothe rplayer tho.

www.divx.com - official home of the DivX codec but apart from downlaoding
the codec there i wouldnt use it for anything else.

www.vcdhelp.com (where you can also download th divx/xvid codecs from
various sources)

IME converting a DVD is long and laborious and not worth the hassle most of
the time - and I can never get it right. Although once you get one set of
settings right you can prob use that on every DVD.

All in all I think its possible to get your 500 DVDs, with subtitles onto
say 600gb worth of HDD
