They don't get 17% of the pump price , but 14.9%.
The "recent" increases of about 15p per litre means that the government gets
an extra 2.2 pence per litre. The rest of the increase is all down to oil
costs.
Even if they handed that back so that the tax revenue is the same as when
fuel was at 82p a litre then you are only getting a 2.2p per litre drop so
fuel will still be in the mid to high 90s
That makes only a tiny difference. For an "average" driver doing 12000 miles
a year at 35mpg that would reduce their weekly fuel bill by 62 pence.
Wow , big fuckin deal.
Is there anyone here who can honestly say that that 62p will make much of a
difference to them?
