Thanks. I knew I didn't see many PS2s until 2001 (Christmas was the big
sell for them) even with the Oct 2000 release, and DVD players did hit the
US in early 1997.
So, there were 3 years for the prices of players to drop to get closer to
PS2 prices, and some people *still* bought the PS2 primarily as a DVD
player.
With HD-DVD player prices looking to be anywhere from my lowball $500 on
up to the current $5,000, I'd say the PS3 would be a pretty attractive
purchase at $300 even for people who don't care at all about games.
If the PS3 plays PS2 games, though, maybe I would buy some used games real
cheap if the mood struck me.
