I came to the show having been a fan of Buffy and Angel. Preferred Angel
out of the two as the tone of the show was usually darker and more adult
than Buffy, although Buffy wan't quite the kid's show some make it out
to be. Firefly was Whedon's best work by a mile though. So of course it
had to be that one that got cancelled halfway through the first season
(why Fox showed the episodes out of order I'll never understand, no
wonder people didn't get it until seeing the DVD set!)

I didn't expect to like the show. Never been a big sci-fi fan, and
certainly never liked Star Trek or Star Wars. I love Whedon's style of
dialogue though, and like you say the characterisation was superb in the
show. The style of the show was like nothing I had seen before.

The scene with the guy being kicked into the engine was great. Really
made you sit up and realise this show was a bit different, and that Mal
is no stereotype hero. He has morals but if anyone threatens his crew,
he has no problem killing them, even if they are defenceless at the time.

So glad the movie isn't a let down, especially considering the high
hopes I had. I just hope that enough people go to see it so they will
make another one. Best of all would be a return to TV.
